My Travel Bucket List

Despite my love for it, I’ve had remarkably few travel opportunities in my life.  To satisfy that wanderlust, I’ve made the best of things by keeping a pretty lengthy travel bucket list over the years.

For the sake of this post, I’m only sharing some highlights (trust me, the full list would take far too long of a post for anyone to read).  I’m also only sharing those places that I haven’t already visited. There are lots of places that I hope/plan to revisit over time, which I’d consider bucket-list worthy.  Perhaps a reverse bucket list in the future sharing those? Let me know in the comments if you’re interested!

I’ve also included lots of international spots, as well as some places here in the States.

Reykjavik, Iceland

For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to see the Northern Lights.  I suspect this might be tied to reading Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials series growing up, but regardless, it’s been a desire of mine for well over a decade.  And, at some point, I came to the conclusion that I’ll someday do just that while visiting Reykjavik.

I nearly got the chance to make this one a reality while I was still living in England, but the plans fell through at the last minute. Nevertheless, I’m determined to make it back someday!

Verona, Italy

Could I really call myself a fan of Romeo & Juliet if this weren’t on the list? Casa di Giulietta is at the absolute top of this list (future husband, take note).

As a bonus, my mom has always dreamt of visiting Italy. I’ve told myself throughout my life that I’ll know I’ve “made it” when I’m able to take her on that very trip.

Key West, Florida

This is probably the most recent addition to the list!  One of my best friends lives in Florida and recently visited the Hemingway House.  He quickly recommended it to me, too.  I’ll admit, it’s long been a spot at the back of my mind, but I’d never given it too much thought.  But, he made three very good points:  cats, books, and history.  As expected, he’s correct–that’s the most compelling combination you could probably put together for me…ever.

Paris, France

Cliché, yes, but having studied French in high school, there was always an expectation in mind that I would one day make it to Paris. Throw in the infinite list of pop culture references I could make and I’m sold.

If absolutely nothing else, my love for the Lost Generation writers is motivation aplenty!

Salem, MA

Ever since I first heard of the witch trials, there’s always been a part of me that’s wanted to visit for myself. I couldn’t tell you if that was more the appeal of history or spookiness, but it’s there all the same.

Galway, Ireland

Confession: this one was sparked entirely by the song “Galway Girl” (the non-Ed Sheeran version, though his has increased it a bit since).  Dublin’s also on my list, of course, but Galway’s always edged it out just a bit.

Fall River, MA

Entirely my desire to tour the Lizzie Borden house? Yes.

Barcelona, Spain

Another Ed Sheeran song!  But, more importantly, I’ve wanted to visit both Madrid and Barcelona since I was a kid.  I have family near Madrid and have always wanted to meet them in person.

This is another one that didn’t quite work out while I was living in England, so I’m especially determined to make it happen someday!

Warren’s Occult Museum, CT

One last stateside spooky spot! From even before my time as a paranormal investigator myself, I’ve been intrigued by the Warrens and their legacy.  The museum is currently closed while looking for a new location, but I’m determined to make it there once they do!

Are any of these spots on your own travel bucket list? What others are you dying to see? Let us know in the comments!
