Best YouTubers I Follow

For the longest time, I didn’t use YouTube much at all.  Occasionally I’d look up a song or DIY tutorial, but not much more.  Recently, I’ve started actually following more than an account or two, and I only wish I’d done so earlier!  From travel vlogs to hauls and organisation ideas, I’ve found so many stellar videos produced by equally amazing creators. That being said, here are some of the best YouTubers I follow:

Alyssa DeBella

The lovely Alyssa was also featured in our 10 Best Blogs to Follow post for The Wise Willow (so if you haven’t checked out the blog already, here’s another chance!)!   Her videos are just as good!  From her Costa Rica vlogs to videos discussing her experiences with veganism and minimalism, there’s a little something for everyone!

Some of my favourites:

Vegan Dream Oatmeal

Day 1 Costa Rica

Drew Lynch

Drew and his service dog, Stella, never fail to make me laugh, all the while raising awareness of service dogs and their handlers (you wouldn’t think it’s this big of an issue at this point, yet some of the people with whom he interacts are maddening!).  His Dog Vlogs are my personal favourite, but he also posts standup and song covers, among other topics!

While I don’t have a service dog of my own just yet, I’ve been researching them for long enough now to recognise just how many issues handlers and service dog teams encounter on a daily basis.  Drew is an amazing contributor to the community and in helping to educate those who don’t have the same background of knowledge.  Plus, it never hurts that Stella is a star herself!

FilmCow

About a decade ago, Charlie the Unicorn and Llamas with Hats took over my middle school.  I didn’t catch on to the fad then, but my mom, sister, and I became fans a few years later.  FilmCow’s videos are typically so stupid that they’re hilarious—in the best way possible.  They’re definitely not for everyone, but they always bring a smile to my face!

Some of their videos are simply ridiculous, while others are more vulgar in their humour.  There are plenty of options, though, so there is likely at least a video or two that will bring a smile to your face!

Heather Feather ASMR

Have you tried ASMR?  It stands for “autonomous sensory meridian response.”

ASMR can be described simply as a variety of soothing SENSATIONS (eg, tingles, relaxation, calmness, sleepiness) due to a variety of gentle STIMULI (eg, whispering, soft talking, light touches, methodical sounds). —ASMR University

A friend of mine in college introduced me to ASMR and to Heather Feather. Years later, Heather Feather is still, without a doubt, my favourite ASMR-tist.  I seek out her channel most often when I’m heading to bed! As you may already know, I have an assortment of sleep issues, which these ASMR videos help to relieve.  Heather Feather is my go-to for such occasions!

Hermione Chantal

Hermione’s channel is about living your best life on a budget and she does a great job of sharing that! Recently, she’s been renovating her new home and I’ve loved following her organisation and decoration videos as she does so.  I especially like to watch her videos for inspiration while cleaning or organising my own life—they’re the perfect motivation!

History Buffs

A friend of mine recently introduced me to this channel and I’m more than a tad obsessed.  History Buffs takes a historical look at historical movies, analysing just how much of that “based on a true story” is a legitimate true story.

Having studied history in college, I’ve had to watch plenty of historically-relevant movies for class, plus I’ve seen plenty on my own time (a friend and I have been making our way through Band of Brothers recently, for exampl—it’s technically a mini-series, but the sentiment is the same).  I love being able to head over to the History Buffs channel to learn more about the stories behind some of these movies!

Jenna Moreci

Jenna Moreci is a writer who creates videos for other writers.  She’s relatable and funny and generally wonderful!  She’s also super engaged in the online writing community at large, which is even more inspiring. Her tips are always spot-on, too!

She promotes her own work on the channel as well, and while I’ve yet to read her myself, I’ve heard amazing things!  Check out more on her writing on her website.

Psych2Go

Psych2Go takes a fascinating, understandable approach to psychology.  Whether you’re interested in flirting or psychopathy, they’ve got a video for it!  Their animations are a personal favourite—their adorable stick figure characters are such a great touch!

I watch a lot of their videos out of simple curiousity—I’ve always been interested in psychology, however casually. But their videos have so many more productive purposes, too!  From a personal standpoint, I’ve learnt more about myself (and about mental illnesses I suffer from) through their videos.  On a professional level, these videos are a great way to get some insight into a condition or state I might be writing about (as just one example of many!).

The Happy Pear

If you haven’t caught on, we here at For the Sake of Good Taste are big fans of vegan recipes.  That’s why it’s no surprise we enjoy The Happy Pear!  Dave and Steve are twins from Ireland that post amazing recipes.  I’ve yet to try even a fraction of them, but I’ve got plenty waiting on my “to make” list.

Not only do their recipes look absolutely delicious, but the videos themselves are just plain fun! I’ve watched many of them just for the experiencing of watching and I can’t recommend it enough.

Thomas Frank

Thomas Frank is the brain behind College Info Geek and the videos on his YouTube channel are equally brilliant!  Whether you’re a student looking to improve or a lifelong learner looking to be more productive, there’s something there to spark your interest.

I first came across CIG as an incoming college student and I can say with certainty that Thomas’ posts and videos made a huge difference in my making it through my four years of undergrad!  Not a student anymore? No worries—I’m using plenty of the tips and concepts into my adult life, too!

CinemaSins

My friends and family are constantly teasing me for thinking through movies a little too much. I can’t help it, I appreciate logic and consistency!  Thankfully, CinemaSins backs me up on this habit.

For example:  I recently saw The Greatest Showman for the fourth time (my mom and sister really, really like Zac Efron—I’m more of a Hugh Jackman girl myself!). This most recent time, I legitimately had CinemaSins’ “Everything Wrong With The Greatest Showman” playing through my head throughout the film!

Of course, it’s all in good fun. The videos themselves are entertaining and I’ve yet to be turned off of a favourite movie from watching the CinemaSins.

Baking With Josh & Ange

You probably already know that I’m a fan of The Office.  In the US version, Angela is one of my favourite characters (and probably the one I’m most similar to, if only because of my adoration of Fitz!).  So, when I found out that she and her husband have a YouTube channel, it was a given that I had to check it out!

To make it even better, the first of their videos I watched was Vegan Baking with Rainn Wilson! Dwight and vegan baked goods? And those recipes that aren’t already vegan can easily be adapted. Sign me up! In fact, they have plenty of guest stars to their channel, including quite a few of Ange’s former costars.

Dauchsy

I’ve recently gotten really into the idea of manifesting and the law of attraction. In searching for some guided meditations to go along with this new interest, I came across Dauchsy’s manifest series.  Of course, the adorable dachshund in their profile image may have had something to do with my levels of enthusiasm. . . .

Their “manifest while you sleep” videos have been my personal favourites. After my nightly LOA ritual (inspired by Jessica Dimas of Dwell in Magic!), I’ll choose one that relates to my intention and put it on as I fall asleep.  I’ve scared myself a few nights when I wake up before the video ends and suddenly hear a voice in my room, but even that’s worth it!
