If you haven’t noticed, things have been pretty quiet over the past months here at For the Sake of Good Taste with a pretty sudden hiatus period. It’s painfully cliché but, essentially, life got in the way. 

Last fall, I left my transcription career to move to writing & editing full-time, with freelance work as well as my own writing and small press. Since, I was working 14-16 hour days more often than not, with few breaks in between. The blog very much fell to the wayside in the process, as did a lot of my own health & self-care.

Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of work on fixing the latter. I’ve been taking breaks at least every few hours and eating real meals (not just crisps & coffee!). I picked up yoga as an almost daily practice. I’ve even started a relatively elaborate skincare routine for the sake of a little extra care & relaxation. 

So, what does this mean for the blog? In the interest of full disclosure, I genuinely considered ending For the Sake of Good Taste, or at least extending its hiatus further. But, the truth is, I would miss it too much—I’ve missed it in these past few months. I’ve missed the friends I’ve made and the people I’ve had the chance to “meet” along the way. I missed writing something that wasn’t assigned by a client or pouring out of me like poetry does. I’ve missed For the Sake of Good Taste.

And so, I’m slowly bringing us back from hiatus. Our domain & hosting have just been renewed, and I’m making plans to upgrade the next time around if all goes well. I’ve got a plan in place on Instagram and have returned to our Pinterest with views slowly returning to pre-hiatus rates. And, of course, I’m working here on the blog.

At this point, this is predominantly back-end work. If you’re a long-time reader, you’ve probably noticed our new logo & site design! It’s still a work in progress to some degree but it’s definitely heading in the direction I want it to. I’m compiling a list of posts & projects and planning a brand-new content calendar (albeit slowly—I’m avoiding burnout at all costs this time around). 

Most importantly, though, I’m working on myself at the same time. Recently, I’ve been working through courses & trainings by coaches like Natalie Bacon and Cathy Heller to improve not just my business(es) but my mindset around them. I’ve been putting in the work on the personal development/self-improvement side of things just as much as the blogging/business side, if not a little bit more. And I’m confident that this will make all the difference.

With all that in mind, stay tuned for the grand re-re-re-opening (yes, that’s a Bob’s Burgers reference) of For the Sake of Good Taste! We’ll be coming back stronger & more excited than ever.
